Most Items Approved, One Tabled During Lawrenceburg Council’s Thursday Meeting
Members of Lawrenceburg’s Board of Mayor and Council voted to approve passage of several items of business during their bi-monthly business meeting Thursday morning, tabling one item for consideration at their next meeting.
Council members approved a resolution to declare eleven vehicles at the police department as surplus property so that they may be sold via internet auction. The list includes a 2002 Dodge Stratus, 1998 Chevrolet S10, 2000 Lincoln LS, 1991 Chevrolet S10, 1994 Ford Ranger, 2001 Kia Optima, 1994 Pontiac Bonneville, 2001 Honda Vex, 2001 Toyota Solara, 1995 Toyota Camry, and 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer.
A resolution authorizing the Lawrenceburg Fire Department to apply for funds through a SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) grant available through the Department of Homeland Security was approved.
If received, the funds would allow for the hiring of three fulltime frontline firefighters for a period of two years. If the firemen were retained at the end of the grant period, the city would be required to take over responsibility for expenses associated with their employment.
Council members voted to reappoint Tim Dickey as the city’s representative on the Tennessee Southern Railroad Authority Board, and to reappoint Robert Parker to the Lawrence County Board of Equalization.
The last resolution approved was to accept a bid from On Duty Depot of Nashville for the purchase and installation of equipment for five new police cars. The company’s winning bid is to outfit all five cars at a cost of $16,588.30 (or $3,317.66 per car). That cost will cover all expenses associated with installation of the equipment. It does not include painting and striping of the cars.
Members voted to table a resolution for the city to enter into an agreement with Spyglass Group LLC to audit primary telecommunication services. The company is a telecommunications auditing firm that specializes in finding cost savings and reductions for municipalities. Council members expressed their desire to study the matter further. They expect to bring it to the table during their March 12 meeting.
